Recovering From Religion

Recovering from Religion is an international nonprofit that provides support for people questioning, leaving, or recovering from religious belief. Through confidential peer support via phone and chat, local and virtual support groups, and access to secular, evidence-based therapy through the Secular Therapy Project, the organization helps individuals navigate doubt, identity changes, and the emotional challenges that can come with religious transition. Its mission is to offer hope, healing, and community without judgment or proselytizing.

The Secular Therapy Project

Secular Therapy Project connects non-religious or secular persons who need mental health services with outstanding mental health professionals, such as psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, and more.

What is unique about the secular therapy project is rather than being a database of therapists, they carefully screen potential therapists who want to become part of the secular therapy project. Therapists are screened to make sure that:

  • They are appropriately licensed in their state or country

  • They are secular in nature as well as practice.

  • They use evidenced-based treatments, which have been shown to be effective at helping improve mental health problems in controlled clinical trials.
